Shotton Mill Takes Centre Stage at LARAC 2025, Championing the Future of UK Recycling

The Shotton Mill Limited Sourcing Team proudly represented the company this October at the LARAC 2025 Conference & Celebration Awards. As the premier gathering for local authority waste and recycling officers across the UK, the two-day event provided a vital platform to share the transformative vision behind our massive investment and its game-changing implications for the nation's circular economy.

Forging Partnerships for a Domestic Circular Economy

The team, comprising Senior Manager RCP Sourcing Robbie Warden, alongside David Gigg, Connor Gorman, and Alper Seyhan engaged directly with over 500 delegates representing 170 diverse local authorities. Their core message: Shotton Mill is building a secure, sustainable domestic end-market for the recovered paper and cardboard collected at the kerbside in the UK.

At the heart of this message is the £1BN+ site transformation, which features a new 750,000-tonne containerboard line. This capacity will significantly boost the UK's ability to process its own recovered materials locally, offering councils a reliable alternative to shipping materials overseas. This transition underscores a profound commitment to national sustainability goals, stabilising supply chains, and reinforcing the integrity of the UK's resource management infrastructure.

A Game-Changing Sustainable Investment

The Shotton Mill exhibit became a focus for insightful conversations on pivotal topics, including Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), contamination mitigation, and the overall optimisation of resource management. Delegates were keen to understand how this major industrial project, set to be one of Europe's most advanced paper mills, aligns with their local authority targets.

Robbie Warden, Senior Manager RCP Sourcing, highlighted the energy and interest from the delegates, "It's been a great first day at LARAC! Delegates have been keen to learn more about the ambitions for the site and its potentially transformational story. We're delighted to be able to showcase this game-changing sustainable investment with our future partners. Our facility offers a real, tangible solution that reinforces the circular economy and promotes recycling right here in the UK."
