Shotton Mill Inspires Next Generation at Coleg Cambria Open Evening

Shotton Mill Limited reaffirmed its commitment to local talent and future skills development by participating in the Coleg Cambria Open Evening at their Deeside Campus on Thursday, November 6th.

Representing the company were Evan Woolgrove and Ben Vaughan, who engaged with hundreds of young people nearing the end of their secondary school education, showcasing the exciting future of paper manufacturing and the opportunities available at the Shotton Mill site.

Building Links with Local Education

The event was a fantastic opportunity for the project team to support one of the region's most prominent local training providers. While sharing updates on the rapid construction progress and the positive times ahead for the mill, the focus remained squarely on the future workforce.

"It was a brilliant chance to engage with young people from the local area that are nearing the end of secondary school years," commented Ben Vaughan, Training Manager. "We were able to talk openly about the future of the mill and the incredibly exciting opportunities that will be available as we grow our apprenticeship provision."

Inspiring Future Paper Makers

As the Shotton Mill Project moves toward commissioning, the need for skilled, dedicated employees across various disciplines from engineering to technical operations is growing. The Open Evening allowed the team to directly address students, parents, and educators about the value of vocational training and apprenticeships.

The mill's presence at the event underscores a long-term strategy to "create and inspire a new generation of paper makers" locally, ensuring the sustained success of the plant through strong community links and investment in training.

Shotton Mill Limited is dedicated to developing structured apprenticeship schemes that offer hands-on experience, formal qualifications, and a clear career path in a cutting-edge industrial environment.

The team thanked Coleg Cambria for hosting the successful event and looks forward to strengthening its partnership to feed local talent directly into the new operational workforce in the coming years.
