The massive cast iron cylinder, a critical component of Tissue Machine 1 (TM1), was delicately lifted and positioned into its final location through a specially prepared roof opening. The hour-long operation, performed by Allelys Heavy Haulage using a purpose-built crane, required absolute accuracy due to the minimal margin for error. The cylinder was supplied by Valmet AB and perfectly installed on its frame by ENKI.

"Witnessing the 150-tonne Yankee dryer cylinder being lifted into place with such precision was truly breathtaking," said Omer Baykir, Tissue Plant and Investment Manager at Shotton Mill. While the core principle of the Yankee dryer has remained unchanged for over a century, modern technology has significantly enhanced its safety, performance, and efficiency. The flawless surface of the cylinder is essential for producing high-quality tissue, and its uniform drying properties will ensure optimal energy efficiency and a consistent, superior product.

TM1 is projected to produce 67,000 tonnes of high-quality tissue annually, operating at a speed of up to 2,100 meters per minute. This successful installation represents a crucial step forward in Shotton Mill's ambition to become a leading tissue production facility.
